Wednesday, May 12, 2010 Grocery Shopping/Journal Work

(Sandra) Dieter was in Brechia for the day for meetings, preparing for the weekend gathering of people for dental learning. The three of us spent the day doing grocery shopping, homework, and laundry. Grocery shopping in a different country is always a field trip. I think we could do a compare/contrast of grocery stores from the many that we have seen. An interesting part of this grocery store, which was a 5 minute walk from our apartment, was the arrangement of items on the shelves. For an example, the toilet bowl cleaning was next to the liquor - any connection?:) For 44 euros we bought groceries for most of our meals for the week - not bad. Bread, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, cucumber, bananas and apples. A great find were the juices: prickly pear/apple and another of spicy tomato - delicious. We found a little playground near the apartment and had some fun. We are enjoying the fragrant smell of jasmine in the air. Homework and journal writing took care of most of the afternoon. We were all amazed all the centrifugal force (word and concept of the day) of the washing machine - especially Alexander - getting close up and personal:). Dieter returned for the evening meal, bringing a little calamari which we cooked up. We had a great family discussion about our days and plans for our time here and our traveling thus far.
