Friday, May 14, 2010: Crazy Pedestrian Walkway

Friday, May 14, 2010 (Karannina): After a 12 hour-sleep, we walk to Familia. The pedestrian walkway is along the side of the highway. It is extremely dangerous to walk on this walkway because the vehicles go zooming past you, less than a metre away from your body. Whoever thought of this type of walkway did not think about the pedestrians' safety. We walk out of the Familia with 2 freshly roasted small chickens, another new journal (my third), pens, pencils, erasers, and two sweet red peppers. We walk back on the crazy pedestrian walkway and find two pastry shops and buy three different delectable pastries. After returning to our apartment we make lunch: leftovers. Mom discovered a new delicious recipe for salad: mix lentils with a lettuce salad and a creamy dressing. Alex and I continued our May assignments. For a break we enjoyed the pastries out on the balcony. They were really delicious! We did some iPod impromptu dancing. After another hour of homework we drew cartoon figures while lying on mom and dad's bed, enjoying and finishing a bag of licorice wheels/swirls. This style of drawing intrigued and interested me to do more of this during my self time for the remainder of the trip. For the evening meal we hiked up amongst the vineyards, cherry and olive orchards to reach a viewing spot of the entire valley. Alexander picked many colourful, wild flowers along the way. Our meal consisted of pesto and cheese sandwiches and apples. For dessert we thoroughly enjoyed a melted chocolate strawberry yogurt Rittersport bar. After meandering our way home we 'crash' on our beds. Dad comes home at 1:15 a.m. from Salo.
