Thursday, May 20, 2010: What is this?

Thursday, May 20, 2010 (Karannina): After breakfast we did our journals. At 11:00 we were given a tour of the Schloss (Castle) by Petra, one of the 2 receptionists in the Castle. She took us to the cellar, the oldest place in the Castle, the dungeon, which was used during WWII, and the two rooms in which Juliane, Queen of the Netherlands spent her honeymoon. I found an old wheat knife and holder. It was very heavy to lift the knife. The spider webs that were hanging from the ceiling in the dungeon reminded me of the glowworms we saw in New Zealand. Following our lunch, we drove to the woodwork shop nearby the Krimmel Falls. The smell inside the shop reminded me of Papa and his woodworking shop. Wooden mushrooms, small animals, Christmas decorations, and knickknacks of all sizes filled the room. We needed to buy a few groceries so we stopped at a SPAR (grocery store). Mom discovered an interesting object. It was a cone entirely made of sugar. Dad read the explanation how to use this cone on, but didn't seem to understand how to use it. We asked one of the workers there how to use the cone. Even she didn't know how to use it. She asked one of the managers, how do you use this cone. After reading it numerous times the manager said it is used to flavour Gluwine (warmed spiced wine). On the way home (the Castle) we stopped at the cave-like entrance to a walkway through the mountain to the Castle that was blocked. After our arrival, we have vanilla ice cream with strawberries and pieces of bananas for supper.
