January 4, 2010: Explosions and Handkase with Musik

January 4, 2010 (Dieter). Big flakes of snow greet us this morning with the sun peaking through the clouds. Today was laundry day and time to catch up on schoolwork, blogs, archiving and organizing digital pics, and submitting another manuscript for publication. After a wonderful lunch of bean soup with sausages and the completion of the children’s first report (narrative paragraph for their school) on Egypt, we ventured out into the snow. The temp was too cold for making snowballs, so we pulled out the 40+ firecrackers that Alexander and Karannina had scrounged on Jan 1 morning along the promenade on the Rhine River. The first few were lit with great trepidation. It culminated with a firecracker inside a cold apple from the orchard - great science 'home schooling' :). Back home we enjoyed a wonderful supper of handkase and zweibel with musik. A little playing on the DSI and then off to watch the final episode of the whale movie. We discovered some tragic news. The emergency vehicles, boat and helicopter found the missing body of a 36 year old man who committed suicide on New Year’s night. Sad when there is so much to live for.
